What is Sharon Link?

Sharon Link is a Google Group. An easy way to send emails to many people, it is a private Listserv or grouping of emails.  Sharon Link was developed as a way for various non-profit organizations, social groups and residents of Sharon to communicate with each other in an informative and neighborly way, without advertising, promotion or harassment.  It is a community resource: local organizations can post up-coming events and residents can ask a question of the group or post local information.It is not to be used as a forum for to disparage a local business, or person, or post personal beliefs or politics.  Notice of upcoming Town meetings and events can be posted, but without personal political agenda or comment.

For Sharon Residents:

·       Stay connected with Town Events and your neighborhood.

·       Sharon Link is "Sharon specific". You will only get information about our Town.

·       Discover local organizations, their purpose and connection to the Community.

·       A great resource of new residents.

·       Need a plumber / babysitter / landscaper?  Ask your neighbors for a recommendation.

·       Want to sell, buy or give away an item?  Post on Sharon Link.

·       Sharon Link has a moderator.  No-one can self-promote a business, advertise or behave rudely to other residents or comment negatively to postings.  The moderator can suspend or remove someone from the Listserv, if necessary.

·       No political comment.  It's simply a violation of our rules.

·       Your email is private.  It will not become part of an advertising list.

For local organizations:

·       Easy to email multiple residents and organizations with one email.

·       The posting will not end up in peoples Spam folders: a difficulty when sending out large group emails.

·       Local organizations can keep residents up-to -date with their events.

·       Residents can find out about membership in your organization.

·       An easy way to promote local non-profit events and keep residents informed of Town of Sharon meetings and events.

·       Local organizations can inform each other of their purpose and consider ways of collaborating on shared projects.

How do I join the Group?

Email Pamela Pomerantz at pamelapomerantz@comcast.net to be added to the Group. You must be a Sharon resident or a member of a Sharon non-profit or organization to join the Group. We encourage you to invite friends and neighbors to join as well.

SHARON LINK LISTSERV RULES  

 This is a moderated Group. Members are asked to comply with the following rules to ensure a pleasant, neighborly dialogue.

Rule 1 - THINK BEFORE YOU POST –posts should be careful, considered, and informative. REMEMBER WHEN YOU HIT SEND YOU ARE SENDING A MESSAGE MANY PEOPLE. Please do not reply to the whole group with your comments if you just need to communicate with the original author of the email. Please do not disparage or criticize a local business or person.

Rule 2 - DO NOT PROMOTE YOUR OWN BUSINESS. You may promote the business of another if you have received products or services from such person.  A member may promote a business only as personal response to a direct request on the List serv.

Rule 3 – DO NOT SOLICIT DONATIONS and DO NOT PERSONALLY ENDORSE POLITICS, SCHOOL, or LOCAL ISSUES – do not ask for sponsorship, petition support or monetary donations and do not promote candidates directly. You can inform members that an upcoming vote, referendum, meeting or event is taking place, but please do not endorse or inject your personal view.  Please state only the facts - event, date, time and location.  If you are posting a political event, please edit out any fundraising information (including the admission cost, if applicable). People can contact you for more information.

Rule 4 - ALWAYS COMPILE your feedback – email your results to the Listserv so people can search the archives for similar information, e.g. local internists, plumbers etc. A compiled response should be sent after waiting 3-5 days from the date of the query. To make it easier to search for Compilations - please put in the Subject: COMPILED [NAME OF SUBJECT].

Rule 5 - KEEP COMMENTS CONFIDENTIAL – this message board is for members only, messages posted should not be forwarded to non members

Rule 6 – AVOID POSTING INTERNET SPAM, JOKES or UNSUBSTANTIATED INFORMATION

CONSEQUENCES FOR BREAKING THE RULES 

1.     At the discretion of the Listserv Coordinator, a member can be temporarily or permanently removed from the Listserv if the rules of this document are violated. 

2.     If a violation arises, a listserv user will be given a written warning by email. If a user commits a third violation, the user can be suspended from the listserv for one month.

3.     If the user commits another violation once access is reinstated, they will be removed from the Listserv permanently.
