Blithewold Manor
Hello, Blithewold Manor is a 33- acre summer estate with grand views of the Narragansett Bay and is nationally significant in American history as an authentic example of the Country Place Era.
We are going on SATURDAY. APRIL 25, 2026, departing apx 10 am.
We are so lucky to have Marie Chassin, a SGC member and Blithewold expert who lives in Bristol RI, offer to share a customized exploration of the Blithewold Manor, Garden and Arboretum.

Town Center Beautification!
Dear SGC members:
Itching to dig in the dirt? Need a few plants for your SGC Garden sale required plant contribution? Want to help beautify the town center? Wonderful!
Please join us Tuesday, April 7th at 11am (we'll work until about 1 but come and work for an hour if that's all you can do)-meeting at the Pond Street parking lot behind the Baptist church.
Bring your clippers, shovels, garden forks and pots-and smiles! We especially need help digging out Siberian Iris and Yellow Tansy from the Pond Street garden to allow for planting 2 new hydrangeas. Pots can also be filled with Solomon Seal that needs thinning from the town center beds.

Every two years our Club invites the presidents of the Garden Club Federation and the Cranberry District to be guests at one of our monthly meetings.
Program: “Windowbox 101"
Susan Nock of Thistle, a garden design firm, will help us to discover how windowboxes can be the ideal accessory to any house, garage, or shed. But how to choose them, plant them, and care for them? We will discuss all of these subjects as well as care & maintenance tips. The program will end with a demonstration on planting a windowbox.

The Butterfly Place
About an hour's drive from Sharon. It is a botanical garden with regional and tropical butterflies, birds and koi fish housed in an indoor garden with a walking path. The cost is $15. We will be carpooling from 5 Park Rd. and leaving at 12:30 pm. Please eat lunch before. We may stop for snacks after our visit if everyone agrees. RSVP by 2/6 if you would like to join us. Stay safe during the storm!

Program: “Seasonal Wreaths Three Different Ways". Time and Location TBD
Mary Beth Hayes of Semper Virens Flowers will teach us three different ways to create a seasonal wreath. We'll learn different construction methods, sourcing long-lasting floral material, what to grow in your garden for wreath-making, and how to make them last longer. Wreaths will be raffled off afterwards.

Humans may love beautiful green lawns, but songbirds and other wildlife do not! This talk will give specific, easy tips for increasing the number of songbirds who visit your yard and garden, while reducing the time you spend on upkeep.

Program: “Fall Floral Design Symphony"
Lorraine Walsh of Artistry Floral will demonstrate three floral designs: a beautiful curved Hogarth done in roses, a unique coffee table medallion design, and a long, low design perfect for a dining table. She will share why she chose each container, conditioning, mechanics, floral material and care. Arrangements will be raffled off.

Field Trip Opportunity: Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University
The Arnold Arboretum is a 265 acre site that is part of the Emerald Necklace of Boston. We can expect beautiful fall foliage and easy walking paths in this museum of trees. No fee and we may be able to join a free tour upon our arrival.
Tuesday, Oct. 14: We will leave at 9:30 am. Meet at Tina Egan’s house. We will arrange carpools. Bring water and snacks.
